Been to Shell Island (between Barmouth and Harlech) for the weekend camping with friends.
The weather could have been kinder, but it was ok. At least it was perfect weather to break camp and everything is away dry

I was pretty apprehensive about the site, as it is the largest in the UK, over 300 acres, with 4 miles of roads crossing it. Thought it may have turned into a camping blackpool type place.
We were 5 mins walk from the facilities, which was ok, but what is good is you arent meant to camp within 20 meters of another group, so quite peaceful.
Some of our party arrived late and were turned away as the site was full which was a shame, but these things happen.
The island is connected to land, but the causeway is tidal so the road is shut some of the time.
Loads of room for the kids to play, beaches, rocks, dune's, plus games room, cafe, bar, shops, toilets and showers (not really enough showers at peak times)
But I would recommend it and will go back, lots to do in the area, and we didnt even leave the site.
On getting home found out PaulW was there too, shame we didnt bump into each other, but not suprising given the scale of the site.
http://www.shellisland.co.uk/was another nice run out for the new car too.
