I dumped AVG when the 9.0 to 2011 upgrade was forced on me. Gone back to standard Win7 security options. I originally upgraded AVG to 2011 on the CCTV PC and it's lagged it so much! I've gone from 1.2 frames per second on all 6 cameras to 0.46fps   I need to find an alternative for that PC now DAMMIT!

I'm using Avira on three PCs but it's just sabotaged a couple of programming packages that use debugging.  That may not affect you though.  :'(

Had the same problem with AVG free, so dumped it, and now use Avast (free version) after reading good reviews. Very good except you can't schedule regular scans on the free one, but select when required.

HTH :y :y :y
