Aircon regassed
« on: 16 June 2007, 12:17:26 »

Took the Elite down to Kwik Fit today to get the air con regassed.  Not the first place I would have thought to get it done, but a bloody good deal.

Full regas for £44.95 and if the recharge doesn't drop the coldest temperature by at least 10% then there's no charge.

Rang round locally and prices ranged from £84 from Vauxhall on their "Summer deal"...cheapest I could get was £71 and that wasn't until Monday.  I can't praise Kwik Fit enough, friendly, fast and fitted me in at a moments notice, and I've got a fridge for a car now  :)

I advised my neighbour not to go to Kwik Fit to have his aircon sorted.....he used a mobile guy i recomended instead.

Trouble is with Kwik Fit , altho a decent price, they dont test for leaks, they dont 'vac' out the system first, they dont add dye with the oil (not even sure they add oil!).

I rang and asked what they did for the £45.......

I hope it hasnt got a leak and stays working for you  :y

They vac'd it for 20 minutes before regassing.  I knew it didn't have any leaks, had it checked this morning by my mates garage.  That's why I went budget...I knew all it needed was a regas.  Oh, and they did add oil....they added 950grams of gas and 25 cubic cm of oil.

20C is 293 absolute so 10% off is 264 absolute which is -9C.

You can't start anywhere but at absolute 0 otherwise it is not correct.

They should have said 2 degrees or something like that rather than leave themselves open to anyone who remembers their O level or A level physics, as I got a good grade at A level.

Only engineers work in K, and you cannot call TwitFit engineers. I think they would easily get away with it in court.

Im am suprised, my local kwikfit, said they gassed it, i asked about the the other stuff, they said nope only gass added......but from the sounds of it your kwit fit did a proper job....tho it would have been nice if they had added dye.....in the case of future leaks  :y

They hook it up to an automated machine that does everything, which is why they didn't have a clue..

OK if you're sure it only needs a re-gas but hopeless if you've got another problem as where an air con specialist will be able to fault find, Thick Fit will shrug their shoulders and give you a refund. Or in my case, send you packing with no refund and let you extract it from them by snotty letters.

Which Kwik Fit branch was that at, out of interest, meegaveesix?
