Every manufacturer has to recall vehicles, but the press don't jump on every one of them Shame really because Toyota had such a good reputation in the UK :-/

It's because of the Japanese fitting such things as a radio & a heater as standard in their cars that the 'British' car makers had to follow suit. What kind of manufacturer would consider a heater box as an option in a car sold in the UK?  :-? And we'd still have 12 month warrenties.

My Corina II proved to me what excellent engineering standards they are built to, with it lasting 20 years and doing 250K miles, with me doing 90k of those with only usual servicing, a set of new brake pipes and a new clutch 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)  It was still going strong when I PX'd it for an Omega!

Well yes, the Carina had a carburetta, no sensors, computers, and no complicated electronics at all  

 Everything I could understand, maintain, and keep running in the old fashioned mechanical sense that I am trained for!  So yes, older cars I believe are mechanically far more reliable, and repairable, but body work wise are certainly worse than modern day vehicles!

My Toyota though was even very sound in that department with just a small amount of welding around a seat belt mount being required after 20 years 8-) 8-)

I have never owned a car with points, oldest car had a very early electronic ignition unit
