Can one drive these cars and not be a raging tree-hugger who passes bio degradable waste subsequently used for the enrichment of our environment? - yes, without doubt. I stand testament to that fact.

Lol, given how they are to drive, not convinced

Yes I agree with that.
I've had this since new (2007) and would certainly say that it's a car best suited to the inner urban environment.
As I live in a deep rural environment the main purpose of the car is lost really.
There is no doubt that a different attitude has to be adopted to get the best out of the car which can be a pain in the arse at times but it's good for extinguishing the fires of spirited driving given the appalling state of our public roads and woeful standard of driving exhibited by many.
I did set off to buy the latest model on its release date but walked out of the showroom when the dealer wanted the best part of £17,000 to change (albeit to the new model with the LED lighting system)
At the time my car was just over three years old with barely 10,000 miles on it.
On the whole it has cost little to run, £10 excise duty, Group 7 insurance, three wiper blades, £300 or so servicing cost and an average of 56mpg (falling to 48 in the winter time)
Would I buy another? - Yes if sensibly priced but as it seems that there will be a significant premium on all the new hybrids/electric vehicles I probably won’t.
I'll go the other way and get something tasty from the mid nineties as I don’t drive much nowadays.
