Whoops
« on: 09 May 2011, 13:02:45 »

Hi All,

Last thursday I noticed a rattling/metal tingling, so thought "Ah crap the auto tensioner is on its way out, better get it to a mechanic ASAP" I wanted the belts done anyway so started off to my mechanic. On the way on a dual carriage way, coolant warning came up, then the battery light came on, so I pulled over as you do. (literally within 1 minute so the engine didn't get too hot I hope)

Turned out my tingling wasn't the tensioner at all, it was the water pump bearings on their way out. Just so happened on the way to my guy the belt slipped off as the bearing seised. So rather lucky me thinks as a snapped belt would have caused some right issues. So got AA'd, being on the grass verge of the A483 just by Llangollen was a priority 1 so they arrived within 35 minutes.

fixable but a pain in the arse! :-/

You drove the car when you thought the tensioner was on it's way out??  :o

I wouldn't have touched it until it had been taken apart and given new bits  :)

Yeah well, I never been much for thinking :-/, also I'm a bit short on cash at the moment having just changed jobs and the garage I wanted to go to invoices, about 2 months after the fact and still gives 30 days  ;D

Anyway heard from them today, all ready, new belts, tensioner, rollers, waterpump, aircon re-gass and obviously coolant. Been taken on a test drive and left to idle with no sign of overheating so hopefully the head hasn't warped.

Yay got car back and she's puring like a kitten, just a rather big kitten, now cruises alot nicer no speaks rattles or other worring noises.

As well as the belts and stuff the following now works:

1. Traffic Master (though licence expired)
2. Radio now switches on and off with the key
3. The headlight controls now light up? (Figure that one out)

All in all I am a very happy man, and will remain happy until I get the bill
