Have a look at the crankcase breather pipe (back right of cam cover) it looks like the hose clips arnt on properly. If you have problems with the idle air valve clogging up then you can replace that right angled rubber pipe with an oil separator (dealer part) which helps to reduce the amount of oil mist carried into the throttle body.

Sorry shouldn't laugh but it always amazes me the ingenuity of self-proclaimed "mechanics" to bodge broken things so they don't have to bother fixing them. Reminds me of the time I couldn't work out why only one headlight leveller worked on my old 540i, turned out some tit had broken the plastic part of the light surround and subsequently held it in place with a cable tie!
