Hi everyone I have now had my mini facelift MV6 for nearly a week now :) The guy who we bought the car off
Told us that the car does have a phone built in to the dash and all we have to do is pop a sim card in there :o
Today my hubby opened the little piece to pop the sim card in and there doesen't seem to be anywhere for it

i believe it has to be the credit card-sized sim card, in which case.. do you have the holder that the regular sim card was attached to when you got it? i think you just hold it back in its place on its "credit card" bit with a piece of tape and put it in...?

hope that helps

Hi Angie
The sim card goes in a slot at the back of the security panel of the stereo. I think the only sims that work are the O2, Tesco and possibly Orange (not sure on this one). You will need an adapter which makes the sim about the size of a credit card.

wont work on orange..vodaphone and 02..as stated you need full size sim card or tape your small size sim into the credit card size outer...just slides in when security panel of radio removed..good luck with it

It's a bit of a nuisance. I have the same on my alfa, except the sim card just slides in at the front. I had to buy a vodaphone sim (full size), register it, top up etc. But, of course, you cant swap the sim between car and mobile phone. What I do is just leave the sim in the car and when I'm driving, use call divert to receive calls through the car phone. I never feel the need to make a call while driving, but dont want to miss important calls.

Nice idea, but leaves you paying for the call!

If you are on contract, some operators will give you 2 sims with 1 number.

The secondary card, you put in the car phone, it only gets calls routed to it when the primary is switched off.

No need to do this myself, but have a few colleagues who do, can get more details if required.
Think Vodafone do it for starters.

How would one go about fitting a phone kit to a facelift? Just swap for a phone-enabled headunit, fit the mic etc, and be done?

or just get an aftermarket kit, and an Autoleads type adapter to pump it through the stereo...

The built in phone will only work with O2 and Vodafone due to the GSM radio frequencies it uses. When these cars were designed and built O2 (then Cellnet) and Vodafone were the main providers using the original GSM frequencies. The others (orange etc) came along later and used the higher frequencies which wont be supported by the built in unit. You may also find coverage a bit more variable as none of the providers are continuing to roll out base stations on the old frequencies. They now all support and mainly use the new higher ones.

The good news is that Vodafone do multi sim. They will IIRC for a small fee provide you with a full size sim registered to the same number as your mobile, you can then use the car phone or your mobile with just one number, voicemail etc.

I do use the phone bit of mine when I drive my Omega. It's as far from cutting edge technology as you can get but it works & keeps you legal. As phones go though, it's probably the most expensive you can get. I priced the head unit up a couple of years back, purely out of interest ..... £850  :o
