Hi all im been having this problem for a bit now and just wondered if any of you guys could help if its warm out and then goes cold i get coolant level same if its cold out then goes warm. When i check i do need to top up level but can also smell faint coolant in the car from time to time ive had it in the local garage and they had it running for ages and said they couldent find anything but put a rad weld in anyway its realy getting to me now any ideas guys

Sounds like it may be the Heater Bypass Valve (HBV) located behind the top of the drivers side of the engine.
Looks like a small plastic starship enterprise, bit fiddly to change if you have big hands.

Thanks mate been on the flee bay as alot of you guys call it and is it also called a vacuum heater control valve im going to have a look under the bonnet today and check it out but it does look like what you said just want to check before i buy the wrong thing thanks again for the help.lee

You're better off going to Vauxhall & buying OEM. It appears there's been a few pattern parts that fail sooner rather than later, & due to where it lives, you don't really want to be changing it twice. If you want a lift in changing it, & fancy a trip round the M60 I could give you a hand.

Should be about £30 quid from Vx.   Not worth bothering with anything else in my view.

BTW I have had 3 Omega's and changed 3 of these things, so its a regular failure point.

Good luck mate you should be o.k i think its going to be abit of a pain getting new one in and because of were it is that makes it harder. You can do it mate time is all it takes.

Hardest bit for me was getting the wipers off..  ended up buying a heavy duty Sealey puller which worked a treat.
