Hi all,
Does any one know if the simple anti freeze tester (Halfords) is accurate with the VX Red Long life anti freeze.
It says only Ethylene Glycol type. As I understand it the VX Red (and other red coloured makes) is Propylene Glycol based anti freeze.

Any info ?

No it wont give a good reading.

The best method realy is to drain the coolant, flush the system with clean water and re-fill with the correct anti freeze mix

Hi All,
My reason for asking was that yes I have drained and flushed system, and added 4 L of VX Red, so was happy all was OK.

It was only out of idle curiosity that I tried with the tester, which happened to be in my toolbox, and was surprised that only two balls floated saying more a/freeze was required.

Hence query on accuracy with propylene glycol mixtures.
