Fault code 16 & 19
« on: 18 April 2008, 22:40:25 »

Hiya guys
Up in inverness tonight so the rear brakes can get done tomorrow.
On the way up, the EML came on.
I pinned it & got 1-6(knock signal circuit 1) and 1-9 (Incorrect RPM Signal).
I know the 1-9 will show as the engine was off when I clipped it, but the 1-6, is it just a sensor replacement?
If so, anybody have a part number handy?
How difficult is it to change?
will a dealer have it in stock?

Thanks again guys( and gals)

a 19 is a fubar sensor (31 for not engine running ;))

16 - more likely cable, not sensor.  Check it, may be repairable.

i would check with the engine running and see if you still get 19.,if you do then change the crank sensor and the other code might disappear when the 19 does..........oops beaten to it ,(take his advice first, knows infinitely more than me) :)

Crank Sensors are £49.35 with TC bought one yesterday and take around 15 mins to do from start to finish. There is also a great How Too in the maintance section :y

Tried paperclip with the engine running.
Same results 1-6 & 1-9 shown.

Is that the crank sensor next to the oil filter? as i changed that a coupla months ago :-?
Where is the knock sensor located?

Any part numbers known before I hit the dealers in the morning?

Yes the Crank Sensor goes next to the oil filter.. but did you keep the wire away from the exhaust like the How Too tells you too?
Did you fit a Genuine one the other week?
Where is the knock sensor? I know if you stand at the front of the car with the bonnet open, where the Aux Belt Tensioner is just above that you can see the cable tray running horizontal with a wire coming out of the tray plugging into another wire and they are both in a little fastening bracket if that makes an sense... well follow the wire from the plug it goes down by the alternator I think at the end of that you will find it. :y

19 is failing crank sensor. No ifs or buts. Make no difference if engine running.
