ive had this happen in the past & it was the sump plug, i put mole grips on it handles facing down & turned them whilst pulling down hard on the grips, it eventually skipped past the stripped threads & came out, even if the nuts come off inside it might jam the nut on one of the broken welds & at least still get the plug out.

jacking will also put the oil towards one end of the sump pan if you've got it high enough which should help when taking the tinker off (if like me you cant drain it cos the plug is stuck). at least you can try and control the direction of the oil before it spills everywhere!!!!

Since you're replacing the sump, why not make your life easier (or at least cleaner) and drill a hole first to drain the oil?
