DIS=Distributorless Ignition System. It is the ignition module fittet to 2.0 engines based on "wasted spark", i.e. two coils where two cylinders share one coil. The 2.2 hasn't got a DIS pack as it is "coil per plug".
The temperature sender is a single wire, whereas the coolant temperature sensor is a twin wire.

If you look at the rear of the engine you ill see a couple of sensors mounted on a metal casting at the back, the single wire one is for the temp gauge in cabin and the two wire one is for the ecu.

What are the symptoms, I take it the car is getting upto normal operating temp?

Just had the head skimmed, pressure tested and gasket changed, due to the dreaded pot 4 problem car running fine but temp gage in car reading zero, looks like I will have to remove the wipers and valance to get at it.
