wanting some advice guys&gals please
« on: 10 September 2008, 23:42:56 »

i own a 2ltr 16v mk2 omega on a P reg auto
i have just serviced the car about a month ago but i keep getting oil light warnings on the dash one of the just says "Oil Lack" and " Engine oil low"
how can this be when its just been serviced?

Also it keep popping out of Drive?? so i have to hold the gear stick in position, then the other day a message came up on the dash saying "Automatic Gearbox"
so at this point i am confused

thanks in advance

Tony

I have to ask the obvious but... Have you physically checked the oil level and for a leak from either the sump or filter ::) ::)

Gearbox shouldn't be limping - I'd suggest checking ATF and reading fault codes, and going from there.

If you say it pops out of drive - you mean revs increase, but car doesn't go anywhere?  :-X

Reading the saga - is there some slack in the gear linkage - i.e. you can rock the lever fore and aft a little whilst in D?  Mine was a little "loose" - turned out to be the nut holding the linkage onto the gearbox was about to fall off...could also be the switch pack on the side, but if you have to hold the gearlever in "D" suggests a linkage check is needed.

Phantom "engine oil" messages will be the sump sensor.

Had same problem with an ECOTEC Cavalier. Cost me £50 a few years back...
