HI

Can anyone point me to a link or pics on how to blank the EGR. I have read several threads that say this can be done. looking at the EGR on the V6, is it a matter of disconnecting the connector or what, please advise.

afaik laurie it's a matter of taking the egr off the plenium, putting a plate over it or similar to block it off(needs to be airtight though) then block the copper pipe coming from the cylinder head

Its a matter of removing the top part of the EGR...removing the copper coloured plate, flattening out a bit of coke can and cutting it to the shape of the plate using the plate as a template, then making holes for the bolt but leaving the centre bit still filled...then stiking it all bak on with the bit of coke can on top of the plate to stop the airflow getting into the EGR valve, really simple...

Yeah ignore what Alex said lol Leave EGR plugged in, and do not block pipe just the homemade coke can plate slipped in above the existing plate/gasket

fuel consumption drops nearly half a liter per 100 km if my MID is not wrong..Perfomance slightly better..

a 2pence piece is ofton just the right size, put it in either end of the pipe that goes from the exhaust to the inlet, job done

It's a good diagnostic step if you suspect the valve is leaking, otherwise, not a lot. Fuel consumption slightly worse, as said. Might be a little more responsive although the valve shuts on full load anyway.

One of the guys on vvoc ended up with head damage a sliver of steel got in from the exhaust side of the EGR into the inlet. After he discovered this is where the sliver came from there were a few other guys with same damage that VX could not find the cause. It is worth blanking off just to save this happening although none of them could verify performance increases on a RR. This was with V6 vecs though so may be different on Omegas.
