Dis Pack Change.
« on: 01 December 2008, 08:50:53 »

Hi All.

Help and info needed please, 3 weeks ago I had my cam cover gaskets replaced along with timing belt and water pump. all was ok until yesterday. [smiley=cry.gif] Friday started misfiring, took it to a local garage to have a look , they connected it to a computer of sorts , and the told me the coil pack ( Dis-pack ) is showing a fault. checked again for oil leaks all was fine . I changed the spark leads about 6 month ago. I have seen that their is 3 different typesof Dis Pack for the 2.5 V6. any way of telling which one I have with out stripping down first ? I would like to buy and do the job all at once. Any Help would be appreciated.

Wasnt aware a computer could show a dis pack fault on the non drive by wires  :-/

Have you rechecked your plug wells for oil?

Correct, the early motronic does not report miss fires and I doubt very much its the primary winding causing issues or the ECU light would be on.

Were the plug leads changed before or after the cam cover gasket leak was fixed?

Plug leads were changed before the cam cover gaskets. have looked at the plug wells all seem ok . as for the garage checking they did connect to a electronic device but I could not see what it was you are not allowed to go into the work shop.  Strang that it ran great for 3 weeks without a misfire.

I suspect the plug lead boots still ahev some oil soaked into the rubber, this causes tracking down the side of the plug insulators (gets worse with damp weather) until it starts to miss fire all the time.

The reason why it gets worse is that the arcing depostits metal on the plug insulator.

So my sudgestion would be to remove the plugs and check them closey (you can clean the insulators with CIF or a non-metallic scouring pad) and check adn clean the boots of the plug leads.

if it is your dis pack it might have nothing to do with the oil. Check teh heater bypass valve for a leak.
