well.....just finished.... and i'm bleedin knackered.....!
the missis is just setting off to the in-laws....she's the test pilot today...!!
cant say i enjoyed that little job to say the least, it was bloody awful...
not only was it a bugger to get out and the replacement in but i also managed to break a couple of things along the way..i'll get to that..!!!
So this is how i did it.....
removed battery
removed small fuse carrier that sits above battery
removed main ecu from compartment next to battery so loom can be tucked out of the way to the right of engine bay
removed top hose to rad
removed the three multi connectors behind battery
undid the screw that holds bracket for above connectors
undid lower steering fluid pipe from fluid res..
disconeted pipe and catch fluid in a small flat container...(tupperware from kitchen...but dont tell the wife...!)
move pipe out of way
now you should have room to get the bugger out....
the pink plastic clip that holds to plug in is very brittle....mine broke right away....the only way i could get the plug off was to break off the edge of the long side of the plug surround both sides....to reconnect i have sealed with some silicon and used a couple of cable ties to surcure....
the other cable has a small clip to the front....smaal screwdriver to pop off.
ecu bolts.... i could only get 5 of the 6 off...2 top, 2 middle and one bottom right hand side.....then just prized the ecu off snapping the last screw mounting off the ecu which is plastic.....(hey it was bust anyway.....!)
now the ecu is out of the way i an see the last bolt that i couldnt get too..... and there was no chance i was going to get it.....! there is a metal plate that covers the access to that last bolt on the right bottom....just about go it out with the ecu gone....?
so repeat in reverse.......!!!!
i only put back the 2 top and 2 middle bolts and seems surcure enough to me....
the wife has just rang and everything is fine....she's at the in-laws 15 miles away....
checked the speedo was showing the right MPH by putting the satnav (garmin) into speed mode.....showing basically the same as before the ecu went bang....
time for a shower and then rock out on guitar hero before she returnes to put the dinner on.......
