Engine cut out
« on: 24 April 2009, 12:29:28 »

Hi all

Was wondering if anyone might be able to help. My engine cut out this morning on the way to work. I pulled over, and tried to turn it over a few times for about ten minutes. It seemed to start, then idled at under 500, sounding very rough and when I hit the accelerator it cut out completely. Eventually, it started and went back to normal. the engine has been down on power a little lately, but I thought as it's done 135k miles that might be the reason.

I did the paperclip test, and the only thing it found was that the mass air flow sensor voltage was low. Would this have caused the problems, and would it need to be replaced?

sounded more like crank sensor symptoms.

I would unplug, and replug in the maf, may clear it.

Ok, I'll have a go this weekend and see. I also have the ABS/TC problem which I'm driving around with at the moment, but I thought that it wouldn't have caused any problems with the engine?

been having the same problem for sometime, and still cant figure it out. Despirately i bought a new MAF and that didnt fix the problem.

Difference is that im getting a code 15 (engine temp sensor) with the 73 which i doubt would cause the engine to behave that way. will get that replaced first.

i was thinking it might be the ICV, cleaned it many times, problem didnt go.

have you replaced the engine temp sensor?

the dash temperature guage has its own sensor so if that works it doesnt mean the ecu one works

Original Poster MAF can cut the engine out aswell on idle i would seek a Replacement MAF and try it out

yep will get that temp sensor replaced soon. Your right gauge is independent of temp sensor connected to ECU.

for the car cut out problem, fuel pump was checked, fuel filter changed, crank sensor replaced, fuel injectors cleaned, throttle body cleaned, icv cleaned couple times.  Dont know where else to look.

it doesnt cutout if im already pressing on the pedal and then press more. it cuts out only when i press the pedal after my foot being away. hesitates then cuts out. also if i accelerate real slow it doesnt cut out.
