bought myself a 2.2 dti and need help
« on: 11 May 2009, 20:10:53 »

hiya,,
i managed to get a 02 dti, its been around and looks abit neglected but i plan to get it back to its former glory.
couples of Qs for now if anyone can help.
the turbo seems to whistle when spooling up and the power delivery as a very slight flat spot, does this mean the turbo unit is on its way out?
any tips on changing the fuel filter,, took a while to find it as its buried under loads of pipes.
i`m sure i`ll be asking more later but any help with these will be most welcome.
 thanks. Paul

Make sure you fill it right up with diesel otherwise you'll never get it started again without full bleeding ::) ::) ::)

The whistle is normal & nothing to worry about. Remove & clean the EGR Valve & Pressure Sensor Switch, that'll make some difference.
As for the filter, yup it's a pain in the arse. I hate doing mine. Be very carefull with the plastic fuels pipes, they're easy to flatten/kink when moved. I'm changing mine to rubber ones when i get in the mood.

Was reading somewhere recently that a turbo only whistles if its out of balance?? I thought they all whistled but maybe its a 'how loud' is ok question... others halfs Primera DCi ate its Turbo last week at 57000 miles... it had always whistled loud enough that you thought there was a police car nearby if on/off the throttle... never thought anything of it till doing research on why it went bang..... My 525 TDS has a silent turbo... and the new one on the primera is silent too :-/ :-/

A slight whistle from the turbo is perfectly normal, especially when accelerating.

It's definately worth checking that all inlet pipework from the air filter to the turbo is correctly and securely fitted. Also check that the air filter is not obstructed in any way, and that the top of it's box is seated correctly to the base.

replaced the air filter yesterday, it was very dirty, turbo still whistles with new air filter, have the same engine in my vectra and that doesnt whistle at all, did read that it could be loose hoses or split pipes, so i`ll be checking them thanks.
i know the omega is a heavier car but it does seem down on power compared to the vectra
i will be changing the fuel and oil filters too,
 cheers.

i reckon its the same size as the one on my vectra,, bit more tricky to get tho,, thinking i`ll need a knuckle joint to cope with the angle,, did you?
by star do you mean torx?

yes torx is what i meant
i made a tool by hammering a 13mm socket into the 1" drive socket thus jamming it solid then just add extension bars to suit 3/8 drive
now its a doddle :y
