See if I get it home and pull it all apart and it's not a HG it's a cylinder head crack then it's a waste of money time and effort really  :-/ :-/

Not really, heads are cheap enough...

Also, when you have the head off, make sure you re-lap all the valves and fit new stem seals - takes more time, but silly not to  :y

Because it's acessible - it's silly not to at that time.... especially if it's a keeper....

Not a keeper but may do them, what I will be doing if I get it, (with Lizzie's help Cambelt, water pump, oil & filter change full collant change, head gasket which gives me all the other gaskets so them too, may do spark plugs and leads with a new air filter, new MOT and 6 months tax) may get this now to be honest as welung666 has put my mind to rest about cracked cylinder head  :y

While I agree a head gasket is the most likely cause - don't ever have your "mind at rest" when buying a project car.

Only ever spend such an amount that, you could afford to live without if it goes wrong, and, could make back breaking it should the worst occur  :y
