How easy is 2.2 Cambelt & Waterpump & head gasket?
« on: 18 July 2009, 10:51:23 »

How easy would it be to do on a 2.2 (that rhymes), a head gasket, waterpump and cambelt, really don't fancy doing it myself to be honest, (time, patience) and something could go wrong.

As you are doing the HG Del, the rest is very straightforward and accessible. :y :y :y

The cam belt has to come off to take the head off. ;) ;)

Lizzie you said you'll help if I do end up getting this car, how confident are you that we could do all this?
Wanted to ask how would I get the head skimmed if it needed it without taking to a garage?

Apart from the head skimming Del, which I understand is a skilled job, the rest is straightforward if you get all the parts, gaskets, and any sealant* we need ;) ;).

*Oh yes, plus new head bolts!!

Yeah they come with the HG kit which I thought was £47 but it's £41 which made me happier  :y

So parts needed would be:
Cambelt Kit - Ebay
Water Pump - Ebay
Head gasket & new bolts - Ebay
Tax - £118.25 (ouch!)
Oil filter - £1.29 - Vaux
And oil but my trade card turned up  :y

In truth I have yet to find a head that needs skimming when I have had previous heads off, as the bolts have been properly torqued.  It is only if a cowboy has tightened down the head and warped it, or it has become very excessively overheated, that a head of that relatively young age should require skimming in my humble opinion. ;) ;)

Just one question we need to answer is on these Omega engines do you need sealant (ie we used to use red hematite) for the HG? :-/ :-/

PS You will need enough Vx anti freeze to refill the system with, PLUS cam cover gasket and black sealant. :D :D ;)

..............or, if you like, we could go together to pick it up WITH all the necessary parts, and if it requires fixing on the way back so be it! We'll work on the car in a layby if necessary! ;) ;)   It wouldn't be the first car I've fixed at the side of the road!! ::) ::)
