Advice on what to buy for cambelt change???
« on: 11 August 2009, 20:45:49 »

Hi again.

Moving on from previous post, I've now found a supplier for a cambelt kit, thanks AndyC, now just a couple more questions:

2002 3.2 MV6 auto

1. Do I need to do the water pump at the same time as the cambelt?
2. What else do I need for the job?

Thanks guys  :y

Waterpump if you don't know its history, and antifreeze if you change the waterpump.

Being a 3.2, you need to lift plenum, so may be worth having the 6 large o-rings, even if you don't use them (they can go hard, and not make a great seal)

I agree with TB, change the O rings anyway, better safe than sorry but check they are seated correctly to save you having to pull the plenum back off to re-seat them :y

It may be worth fitting a new auxs. belt if you don't know it's age :).

Not a bad idea to remove the aux. belt tensioner pulley, carefully lift the seals out and re-grease the bearing. Mine was dry as a bone at the 80k change.

Thanks Kevin, made a note of that.

I might as well do the aux belt too, it's done 180k now. I had the plenum off not so long ago when i did the breathers and the O rings 'seemed' ok.

What would the symptoms be if they don't do their job properly?
