Remote key fob dead
« on: 19 December 2009, 15:49:28 »

Hi all;
One of my remote fobs has stopped working, checked battery and visually checked over but can't see anything wrong. Is there a way of programming a key yourself if you buy one on ebay or such (the same as my golf) or am I off to line those robbing gits at the main dealers' pockets?
Thanks in advance

Have you tried cleaning the contacts first?

If you have the card for the car with the details, contact TB,  or any of the others with Tech 2 and they will help. I think you will find it cheaper than main dealers. :y

Alton, Hampshire is your closest Tech2, maybe drop Kevin Wood a PM  :y

You will need the car pass to get a key programmed, this has to be got from a dealer (around £30 odd)

Get yourself a new key off eBay, take to Kev for some tech2 trickery.   :)

Or you could send the existing key to Martin Imber (on the forum) for him to repair :y

Dismantle the key completely and take the circuit board out, then try to press any of the microswitches directly. If the light is lit then it works but the switches are on the way out.
Temporary repair is to place something lih a thicker small piece of paper underneath every switch and the plastic housing of the key so it will press the switch harder when you use it.
Or if you are a little skilled with soldering order the switches from ebay and replace them.

I have exactly the same problem with my key, it still starts the car but doesn't remote lock/unlock. So someone with a tech2 can programme a new remote, yes?

Martin Imber is your man, if he can't sort it I would be 'very' surprised.
Work wonders with my knackered key, came back as 'new'  :y

I would send your key to Martin Imber before you go spending big bucks on new keys etc. He recently refurbished my dead key - now works perfectly without the need for tech 2 and his charges are very reasonable.

If the LED is not working then its probably a battery contact that needs soldering....happy to do that little job for free for members around Nottingham
