« on: 01 February 2010, 19:07:57 »

ok guys any ideas where best to start/ most likely places to look first
omega elite t reg had a small leak for ages never been able to find it try as i mite

but it getting worse lost about  3.5L driving to mk and back from luton

its not the heater bypass as that's poped a while back and has been done

cant see anything other than water collecting on plate under engine.

had it on ramp at garage then can see nothing other than some water around timing cover

mats in side are dry so think heater matrix is ok

im not Sure about water pumps on the v6 is that a possible. i hope not.

is oil cooler cover likely to leek or may be that pipe at back of engine?

any sugestions would be a great help guys im stuck

Hoses that connect near the plenum? May explain the location of the water  :-/

Assuming it is coolant you can see, and you can find no obvious leak, it might be worth your while checking the expansion bottle for fine cracks around the filler neck, or it may even be a faulty cap, venting coolant which you wont see whilst driving and may have stopped by the time you check under the bonnet? phate321 pendelum hoses look ok

philrich funny you should say the cap is leaking a touch
and we were debating that there may be a tiny crack at neck but was hard to see really

but it dont seem wet under res so don't think that other water is coming from there as  and yes its deferentially coolant on plate under engine
as cap been a tiny dribble for a while

could try a new cap and tank from breakers tomorrow

shame less

BUMP

well that's odd chucked in a a bottle of rad weld last night and topped up with water

drove to scrapy this morning to get a tank and couple of caps wanted a spare to make up a pressure tester cap

then other side of town to grab a few Tyre valves from garage i know.

and it dont seem to be losing any water or any i can tell of

cant see it being a pipe know
hope not the head gasket thing as it a 3L pluss its got full vx service history
plus only got 80k genuine on it 25k of em iv done on  it

im wondering if it was leaking from oil cooler cover
could it have been leaking a bit from water pump

any one have any other ideas

at the moment it got very little antifreeze in there
and cant pull it all apart at moment as me backs bad and i dont fance trying in this cold with a bad back.

was thinking to drop coolant stick on new coolant tank, cap
and refill and see how it gos

good or bad idea ?
if i do that will i lose rad weld out of there?
