Found oil leak and coolant leak, need help !!!!
« on: 05 May 2010, 23:11:42 »

I steam cleaned the engine a few days ago on the 3.2 and started it up today to try and find the leak and it looks like its coming from a switch/sensor, but I don't know the name of the sensor, can anyone tell me??. pics below

I also found a coolant leak on the top of the radiator, its a small crack but enough to lose a lot of coolant from:

And the coolant leak:

There's no need for washers, the thread is conical IIRC. Also, the leak is usually from the joint between the inner part (sensor itself) and the threaded part, so any kind of gasket/sealant will not cure the problem...

im afraid to say that its not conical and it comes complete with a ally crushable whasher i ended up putting a leather washer on mine but as stated my leak is from elsewere as i put a rubber sleeve on mine to find out there was oil on the outside of rubber but non underneath so switch is out of the equation

As an aside its best with a deep 24 mil socket you can get to it without taking bagpipes out but as your leak looks black oil i would say yours is the switch as my leak is clean oil but when ive took the switch out the oil that comes out is very dark coloured like yours

After cleaning the engine it was easy to see that the oil was coming from the switch, have ordered one from local dealer which I collect tomorrow :y
