Releasing the throttle cable?
« on: 06 August 2010, 13:24:30 »

In preparation for whipping the plenum off over the weekend I had a sneak preview under the bonnet this morning - and I can't quite see how the throttle cable disconnects from the linkage.

It looks like some sort of tiny ball-joint - but with no visible means of holding it together! I'm guessing there's some sort of internal spring latch but I don't want to just yank as it if there's a catch I need to release first.

Help!

It pulls off, there should be a small shaped pin goes through and clips round the ball, but this often gets lost.

Sometimes they do get a bit stuck, in which case try and free with penetrating fluid, or just leave attached and have the plem rest somewhere.

Pics are in the prefacelift cruise control guide iirc  :y

That's absolutely brilliant, thanks! Mine's missing the securing clip. It has obviously never gone anywhere over the years but, having disturbed it (and broken the crud seal keeping it in place!), is it worth fashioning a new clip out of a paper clip maybe?

I'll be taking the plenum right off as I want good access for cleaning the breather system and lifting the rocker covers.

I really struggled to release mine - & decided to rest the plenum upside down near the top of the suspension turret.

I then just brushed against the cable and it popped off easy as anything. So doing it with the plenum in that position may help.

I think a paper clip may be too think BTW
