Hi there guys. JUst a quick update on my non-progress.
My 2.0 ecotec runs extremely lumpy at idle, as if it's only running on two cylinders. Ignition system is fine, virtually everything has been replaced. I suspected that there was a vacuum leak somewhere as the revs rose when easy start was sprayed at a certain area of the engine. It was in the general vicinity of the HBV, and there was a hose missing. so fixed all that, started up with high hopes and still the same. checked all the pipework for the FTVV and still the same. There was a large dent in the bottom of the inlet manifold and some suspect loking joins in the casting, also the mating faces were badly scored. So today i fitted a new inlet manifold. I couldn't get hold of the same one, but got one off of a vectra that was slightly different. It has a diaphragm on the side that actuates a valve inside it, but seems to be controlled by the ecu.
i gambled that as my engine management doesn't have the connector for the valve that it would stay in the closed position and present no problem, is this the case?
It took a bit of creative pipework, but got it fitted and started up the engine, again with high hopes. Not a bit of it though! still running exactly the same.
I sprayed the last of the easy start into it and the revs went up still. The only thing that I haven't changed so far is the servo pipe. I have listened to it through a stethoscope and it doesn't sound like it's leaking, although if i press the brake then rev the engine, the pedal goes down further, so maybe it is that. It's certainly the only thing that i haven't changed so far.
The engine seems to run pretty much ok at high revs, just when it slows down again it starts to run like shit, and usually just cuts out.
I'm starting to get to the end of my tether now, Don't want to count my chickens but it looks like i will be getting a new job, which will initially involve a considerable drop in wages and i just can't afford to run the landy to work everyday so i need to get this fixed.
anyone in my area got a working xev?
