Main Light Switch Removal - Facelift Omega B
« on: 04 October 2010, 10:34:48 »

I noticed the other night that I have lost the illumination on the main light switch and need to replace the bulbs. The Haynes manual says that this switch can be removed by using a couple of metal inserts either side of the switch to presumably push aside two retaining pins and then ease the switch forward. I've had a couple of goes at this with the wifes best butter knives (first time they've ever beed used for anything useful) but the switch doesn't seem to want to come. I'm a bit worried that I'll use too much force and either bust the switch or mark up the dash. I have an Omega B facelift. Is it the same switch as the earlier models that the Haynes manual covers? It has the main switch, fog switches and instrument illumination dials etc.

Should work, anything slim enough, knives, credit cards etc..

Ive pushed things in to release the pins, then pulled on the main 'knob' and its just slid out.

Thanks, I'll give it another go, just wanted to check that the switch is no different on the later model. If the switch is supposed to come out easy I must be doing something wrong I assume that the pins are supposed to retract. If I fail again I'm giving up as it'll be just my luck that I end up breaking something.

Oh thanks for that Jimbob. Success and job done. The best (and cheapest) use I've ever had for two credit cards.

From the pics I could see that they were sprung lugs either side that just needed forcing closed. I was reluctant to push too hard before as I thought they were just pins inside that I may have sheared if I forced too hard.

Many thanks once again.
