clock won't set

after charging the battery over the weekend i can't get the date and time to set.it all lights up and there are no pixels missing but the date reads 01/01/1997 and the clock reads 0.00,and it hasn't changed at all in 36 hours.any ideas or is it fubar'd?

Are you holding the top button in until the display flashes

Is the radio tuned to an RDS enabled station?  like any of the BBC ones?

failing that use the buttons above the clock to do the setting
