afternoon to all, on my way to work this morning (11am) once the car had warmed slightly it started missfiring,  i think its running on 5 cylinders maybe less.  I have read on this forum bout leaky rocker cover gaskets and couple other things.

It a 2000 (V) 2.5 v6 gls auto

My question is wat is the most common cause of a misfire on these engines, 

i haven't had chance to have a proper look yet but i can a little oil on the exhaust manifold on passenger side so guessin its got oil in one of the plug wells.

I would hazard a guess this is where your problem is.

i was kinda hopin thats what it is, coz i can do a temp fix for now.  i dont know when mine were last changed as i have only had the car a couple months, but it only has 76K on the clock i thought they would of lasted longer than that

It's not so much that the r/c gaskets themselves fail, it's more that the engine breather system blocks up which then pressurises the engine causing oil to be forced past the r/c gaskets.

So simply cleaning the breathers would go some way to alleviating the flow of oil, but the gaskets will still need to be shanged at some point.

rite just been out on my break to have a quick look, still not firin on all cyls.  But checked water bottle again and its empty, i changed the water and antifreeze 3 weeks ago and up until tuesday this week the bottle was at the correct level.  i have the usual mayo on oil filler cap and on top of dipstick neck. 

how do i go bout cleaning the breathers and how do i get to the plugs, it looks like a right c * * t

I would be more worried about the lose of water and would try and fix that first as it sounds to me ( Im no expert either ) that your HBV is leaking onto your dis pack hence why you are getting a misfire,,,,,, Im sure a more knowledgeable one will be aslong soon tho

rite lads after 2days of investigation and swearin, i can now take intake manifold off with eyes closed.

i have checked then changed the plugs,  checked and changed the leads and have come to the conclusion that its the coil pack.  so where is best place (by best i mean cheapest and fastest) to get one from.  or if any members have one for sale near or around newcastle area that i can collect tomorrow.

the one i am after is off 2.5 v6 petrol, its all six leads on one block
