a few conflicting reports on this so i thought i'd try to generate a definitive answer...

i'm fitting mini facelift MV6 leather into a facelift MV6. now, i know there are some considerations when swapping seats from pre and post facelift cars, however, 'pre and post facelift' as the term of reference for seats is a little misleading as there are different editions of both.

am i right in thinking its actually about matching the right airbags and tensioners, so in that respect it doesnt matter if youre using an early facelift / late prefacelift set, as long as the seats have the right amount of airbags and tensioners everything should be fine?

i should say, im guessing the main problem is the airbag light etc but if you have a set of seats with the same airbag configuration i.e. side bags etc, then this will probably be avoided?

the heaters are incompatible too afaik.

also lose active head rests, so could be an insurance consideration

I thought mini Face (87 on) and Facelift MV6 seats were the same?

The pre-tensioners changed from Pre to Mini facelift cars also

Early prefacelift (up to end of MY97) - mechanical pretensioners, no side airbags. Basic seat heaters. Basic head restraints
Minifacelift (MY98 and MY99) - pyrotechnic pretensioners, side airbags, basic seat heaters, basic head restraints
Facelift (MY00 - MY03) - pyrotechnic pretensioners, side airbags, advanced heaters, active head restaints


All 3 eras are incompatible with each other without insurance implications.  You'd have to not have all your dogs on one lead to start removing safety systems just to get leather (which is bloody cold in winter, bloody hot in summer).  If you MUST have leather for whatever reason, get the right ones - your life may one day depend on it

Actually, facelift into a minifacelift is acceptable, if you dont mind losing the heaters

You'll probably have to strip the seat to deal with the thermostat
