I am going to do a coolant change in the next few weeks and came across a article which seemed a good way to do it but im not entirley sure,the guy concerned did it with a hose running in the expansion tank with the engine running and the radiator plug/tap undone,this way apparently the whole cooling system gets flushed including the block,any thoughts  :question

I have certainly used that method.  Key thing is to ensure more water goes in than comes out!

Edited to add:  I use a hosepipe, as I'm both lazy and impatient.  Just make sure the hose is running at a good enough rate to keep sufficient water in the expansion bottle.

Thing is though, that cold water from the hosepipe will cause the thermostat to be closed, so no flow out of the top hose into the rad.

You'll actually end up with a flow backwards through the bottom hose towards the radiator drain.  The upper parts of the radiator aren't going to see any flow I wouldn't think.  Easy enough to flush that separately though, I guess.  :-/

Edit: actually isn't it just going to go from expansion tank, backwards through bottom hose and out of the rad drain, not necessarily getting round the engine much at all?  :-/
