Now its just taking the mick!

 98 2.5 - water in plugs 4 & 6, big misfire, sorted this but then wouldn't start, tried new crank sensor, petrol present also spark. Turned out to be failed coil pack, started as soon as new one put on  :). Cleaned out breathers while I was at it, took care putting it all back together, sealed scuttle, everything fine. A bit noisy at the top end at first but is always has been and it hasn't been running since mid December.
Took her to work yesterday, ran great there and back, top end noise soon stopped. Started her again 10 mins after getting home and a misfire has appeared! Not there when revs increased gently with car stationary, but it appears if reved quickly. Certainly present when she is driven.
Off now to dig a big hole in my garden so I can bury her!  >:(

I' suspect your HT leads. About £40 for a set of Bosch ones but  bugger to fit  :(

It it was mine I'd change the plugs first, if not done already, then see if that cures it. If not, only leaves plug leads, which means undoing your scuttle again.   :(

Ditto  :y had the same problem with mine and it was an HT lead that had a crack in the plastic on top of the plug and was arcing out on the engine !!
And it had to be No6 the worst one to get to  :o

Yep...Flubbered coil pack normal kills HT leads and plugs...certainly did on mine.

Changed the lot, problem went away.

Hmmmm.... tough choice, do I continue digging the hole or replace the leads and plugs? If I do the plugs and leads it will have to be when SWMBO is out, she is already on the warpath due to the amount of time I spend under cars! Can't blame her, I am getting a bit fed up of being cold, damp and smelly myself!
Thanks for the advice guys, anyone know a good marriage counsellor?  ;)
PS no codes which would point towards plugs and leads?

Try removing the leads and checking for damage before deciding what to do :)

You have my sympathy. My 2.5 drove me to distraction with endless problems.

Try having a look under the bonnet in the dark for plug lead arcing. My last misfire was number 5 lead.

Which HT leads? Do I buy from VX dealer (have TC card but would have to go through to Leeds), anyone know where I can get Bosch ones from or do I go to my trusted factors and buy the ones they have?
Advice please  ;)

I had exact same symptoms recently, I changed the plugs and the problem was resolved.  :y

My codes didn't point to it either but it was the HT leads.  Good advice to look under the bonnet whilst running in the dark.  It could point you exactly to the problem and only takes a minute. SWMBO can't complain too much about that...

I bought leads following the reply below from Jampy  Supplied in a couple of days.  No problems

Got mine from local Europarts motor factors :y
About £60 if i remember correctly :y slightly longer than originals though :y
