Looks like I have managed to kill the car horns but just wanted to understand if this seems possible.

During steering wheel change horn button got trapped and caused horn to sound.Thinking this was the power sounder left it running for about 5 mins continuos,after which it went very faint and stopped.Since then it doesn,t work despite fuse being intact and relay working correctly.

Would this continuos running cause them both to "die" ?

I suppose it could :-/ After all, it will have got very hot!

Easiest way to check would be to just put a multimeter on the terminals while someone presses the button

certainly not gonna be 'designed use' 5 min continuos use.

As said, check terminals are getting 12v, and test the horns by applying 12v, rules out both possibles

Got power going to the plugs just no sound.

Can hear relay click and dash lights slightly dim which seems to prove a "dead short".

Just curious if continued running would cause them both to die,but you are right they would have got pretty warm and probably damaged the internals.

Got a replacement set on their way so will see if I can dismantle the old ones for a closer investigation out of curiosity.
