hi. sorry i have no idea how this works. my son told me about the website. just having a nightmare trying to find a result to the problem of the abs and tc light on also no speedo.  it is ok first thing in the morning but only lasts for about 4 miles then the lights come on and speedo drops.  i love my 1998 2.5 auto tourer. but its starting to depress me. taken it to garage and they cant find out exactly whats wrong. they just gave me a long list to try and dont know where to start. thanks

Hi Peewee1

welcome to the forum.

I had my 98 model 2.5 Omega for 11 years and had the ABS ECU fail 3 times during that time. It is a common problem. The first time it happened my local (Hinckley) garage quoted me 1200 quid to fix it.  That was when I found this forum.

There is a good maintenance guide that shows you how to fix the problem. A fiddly job but just requires patience and a reasonable selection of tools.

You have several options
-Obtain a secondhand ECU off a breaker on here. Same type of car. I don't recommend that anymore as my last one cost 50 quid and lasted exactly a month before failing.
-Take yours off and send it to one of the ECU repairers. BBA Reman darn sarf or ECU Testing in Nottingham
- I have one I got reconned by ECU Testing but then never fitted it as I scrapped the car- 2.5 auto Elite. Another forum member is interested but if he doesn't have it you can have it for same price 100 quid including recorded delivery from Spain. It has the balance of the two year guarantee on it.

Any other problems just post up your questions.  :y

HI ... I'm in Wooty B .. very close to you and willing to help ..... but you've chosen a bad time !! We're leaving around 10:00 am (sharp) for the bank holiday, won't be back until late monday... so you have a choice .. drop over before 09:00 tomorrow (Thursday) or wait until next week .. :(

Sounds very like an ABS ECU though .. BBA Reman will mend it for you for around £130 (well it was that price 4 years ago!!) with a 2 year warranty.

EDIT

The 3 you've had as replacements ... were they new, repaired or from breakers ??? If all from breakers I'm guessing all the same age and all the same problem .. methinks a repair would be the most economic choice.
