What else was included in the winter pack then?  :-/

::) Judging by my car, a comprehensive list comprising: an ineffective aux. heater pump, rubber tyres and glazed windows.  ;D

I believe the pump only runs when the climate is turned on with the engine stopped. It is to allow "residual heat" from the engine to keep the car warm.

On a misconfigured climate panel (configured for no pump present) it runs all the time the ignition is on.

The electric pump by the radiator is to circulate coolant when the engine is stopped. It only runs when the engine has been stopped and the temperature is high enough for one of the fans to cut in. It circulates a little coolant to stop after-boiling.
