Cat Differences
« on: 13 October 2011, 19:07:16 »

Anyone actually compared the Cat's from a 3.2 and a 2.6?

I can see they have different part numbers, but wonder what the actual difference is, and wonder if thats why the 3.2's are more prone to the cat efficency codes.

Interesting... I had assumed they were the same. It would indeed be good to know what's different.

Yes..

My idea being, Im about to fit a new exhaust, would a lower mileage 2.6 or 3.2 cat be an idea to fit at the same time to help the issue (alongside masking it by moving the sensors)
plus I know I have 4 studs to drill out, maybe a replacement would be easier....

It could be an idea to move the O2 sensors before fitting them  ;) save any trouble later :-*

And the plod spec difference on a catalytic converter would be exactly... what?

Are the exhaust manifolds different on a 3,2? MAybe some difference in diameter or bolt holes  :-\

Pretty certain that 2.6 fanimolds are the same as 3.2 in fact I believe the engine ECU may well be even the same.

Have fitted a set from a 2.6 onto my 3.2. Bolted straight on with no problems. Compared both when off and could see no difference at all. Has passed NCT emissions test since with no probs. Didn't bother moving lambda sensors and have had no lights or codes either. Don't know why they bothered with different part numbers. Might be differences in back pressure but I've noticed no difference in driving mine.

if they are identical, then why do the 3.2's have these code errors? Do 2.6 pre-cats last better because of less emissions?  :-\
