Less than 1000 miles ago I replaced the crankshaft sensor for a genuine Bosch part from the Vauxhall Dealer.

The new sensor was fitted (as per the guide on here) away from the exhasut and heavily wrapped to protect it from heat.

Recently, at idle, the engine would give a vey low down growl. The same noise given off when the previous crankshaft sensor presented fault code 19.

Doing the paperclip test this time, I discover that fault code 19 has re-appeared.

How long are the crankshaft sensors supposed to last?

Is there anything else other than the crankshaft sensor that could be giving this reading?

That sounds like it needs a warranty claim to me!

AS Jimbob suggests...a big moan to VX parts and claim on warranty !!

I changed my sensor 2 weeks ago, so hopefully my one is not from the same batch as your one :-(

Vauxhall will not want to no about a claim for such a small item

There will just mess you off

Especially if it has been used

They will try and get you to commit to a tech 2 session which may ................or may not........... condemn your sensor, if not you will be £90 out of pocket! Tried the same with me last year , I found causing unbridled chaos at the service desk helped a little!

How long do the fault codes remain - when doing the paper-clip test?

When the 19 code came up in the past it coincided with the following:-

1. Hestitation upon pulling away.
2. Stalling when coming to a stop.
3. Stalling when putting hard lock on the steering.
4. Stalling when putting it into reverse.
5. Grumbling sound from the bottom of the engine.

Now none of the above are present - except - the grumbling noise.

The 19 fault code remains when doing the paper-clip test.

Is this noise a sign that the sensor is upon the way out?

Any thoughts would be welcome.
