doing it on line (tax)
« on: 28 February 2012, 10:52:14 »

Not really a great believer in doing everything on line ie tax vat like to see a paper trail etc but bowing down to pressure from hm revenue and customs vat must now be filled out on line and tax will follow i guess

so everything this year is now submitted on line

but how safe is it :o :o

I do as much of my admin online as possible. Banking, quotes & invoices for clients all done via email. The trail is there, just not on paper ... but can be if you wish to print everything you have done online. Something I generally don't do.... cos it kinda defeats the object of the exercise. I accept that some things still have to be done on paper.
Safety: never had a problem. Just like anything, where there is security, there will be a criminal mind to try to beat it. I accept there is always a risk, as there is with lots of things. There is always a risk of crashing your car ... but you still drive anyway. As long as appropriate measures are in place, go for the easy life, IMO

"Those details" (not sure EXACTLY which ones you mean) are probably "out there" anyway. Not for general public consumption, but on a computer / server somewhere. And some you don't even know about possibly  ;)

If the URL starts with https and you have the lock icon in your browser then it's perfectly safe assuming your machine is not already compromised in some way (eg, keylogger, malware).

Mrs CG has been using the online income tax system for years, both for work and personal use... afaik problems only start when the human eliment gets involved.

Doing Vat and tax online is a doddle....its what happens with the numpties at HMRC afterwards that takes the biscuit >:(
Just had a letter from their debt collection side, dated a week after our cheques had cleared, which was a few days within the deadline, demanding payment. When I phoned and 'dared; to suggest their system was rubbish, I really feel that the obnoxious rude b*****d on the other end would have decked me had I been in front of him !!!!!!!!!!!! ???
A lesson in politeness should be given to their personel >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
