I had intended, just like JamesV6CDX to pay my respects to a person who had earned respect for how he had dealt with what life had dealt him whilst being a serving copper and how he had moved on from it. Instead all I read is some keyboard banging self opinionated member banging on about how he was a wife beater when there was NO scrap of proof to it. So she had a black eye - so what? Many get black eyes through many different ways and means many of which are self inflicted. I know that from my own experiences on more than one occassion. Could it have been in self defence? Maybe, just maybe he was not the attacker! Who was there, were you the witness? Personally I did not think that anyone as profoundly blind as he was could see to land a punch anyway!
Maybe a bit of thought before generating a disparaging post would have helped make it an interesting one with a viewpoint instead of just a low attack on someone deceased. This for me was one posters opinion too far. It showed no respect at all and totally lowered the forums standards I had come to expect.
The alarming man - well described, you certainly are...........alarming.
Rest in peace David, you have earned it by serving the public well.

i started this thread purely to allow anyone wishing to pay their respects to do so.

While I understand this forum promotes free speech, I am personally gobsmacked by the unbalanced, shallow attitude evidenced in a couple of the above posts.

If you wish to be a keyboard warrior or make shallow unfounded comments, as seems the norm these days, can you PLEASE make them somewhere else.

This bloke took a face full of bullets while doing a job which is there to keep the likes of you and me safe. He went through hell as a result.

If all you can do is make narrow minded comments, please make them elsewhere.

ive read this post and stood back from replying cos i didnt want it to turn into a rant but hey ho,i bet he didnt get the help he deserved from this so called govt,i bet he didnt get looked after as well as an inmate at her majestys pleasure(if moat had lived he would of got treat better than this officer)a man who took a job to try and serve and protect the public did not deserve what happened to him and i say RIP OFFICER

Going by the BBC, he had the magic words said to him following an incident at home, as he was suspected of lashing out, but was subsequently de-arrested and not even taken into custody. So it looks like the correct outcome, no bad treatment etc.
