2.5TD - Total Turbo Loss
« on: 01 March 2012, 21:14:59 »

This evening I put my foot down from a standing start in the TD, at a roundabout, to pull away from some lights.

She was a total slug, there was nil turbo assistance there at all!!

Stopped at next set of lights, and when I went to pull away....vrooom, turbo back, stronger than ever....

Please forgive me as my knowledge of disesels is limited... I'm guessing there is some sort of actuator, that maybe didn't 'actuate'?

She's done it two or three times over the last couple of weeks, and it always seems to sort itself straight out afterwards..

Cheers :y

Wastegate sticking open perhaps?

Or ECU going into some sort of overboost protection. Any codes stored?

code 64 is a sensor in the injector pump which can only be replaced by Bosch don't worry about it.
As for the turbo boosting have you played about with any of the vac pipes around the egr/solinoid area.
If not the only thing to try is a new waste gate valve

The waste gate on these is not the most sophisticated setup!

Its little more than an inlet pressure monitor mounted on the turbo output.....no direct ecu control available.

Clear that bugger out. Keep checking, and see if it comes back at same time as these incidents.  A fuel filter full of Diesel Magic may cure it for a while.

Not seen wastegate actuators stick open on these engines.

The question is .. was there really no boost being produced, or was it either a) leaking out somewhere or b) not making it to the MAP sensor (which has the same sorts of symptoms - having accidentally disconnected the pipe from mine once and found that there was just about zero 'go')..

All codes cleared... not happened today, in around 100 miles.

Am running on BP ultimate diesel (ouch!) and it really does seem to go much better on that, than sainsburys stuff...

Vac pipe to the map sensor or the egr valve for sure, had the same issue with mine.

Blank the egr off and have done with it  :y
