Word of warning though, they are extremely expensive to keep on the road.  I had to replace a drop down pipe which was made from some special metal, had 2 pre cats before going to a main big cat and was only about 2 foot long....

.....the part on its own cost 830 quid!!!   :o :o :o :o

Thats not to mention each tyre costs £220 and to top it up £130.

I bought my Omega only about a month or so ago having just got my annual bonus.

I had a wad of cash (£7K) which I had to spend on a car and I was looking at Omega Elite 3.2, BMW 740 and Jag XJR V8's. (my boss was taking the mickey a little bit as I get a 10% car allowance and was driving around in an N reg. Pug 306 D-Turbo)

I test drove, and looked at, many examples of all 3 models and ended up buying my Omega and do not regret it for one moment.

The Jag is a nice car (any car with a "Valet" button is cool in my book), but the Omega was in my opinion a better car for the money. It is more comfortable than either the Jag or the BMW in my opinion, and has ample power. I personally find Jag seats too short under the thigh (I'm about 6'3").

One other factor, and not the deciding one, was that a anti-roll bar linkage arm for a miggy is under £20. On the Jag, you're going to get about that much change from £200!

Another one is that, a proper (stamped) service on a Jag is more important and will hurt! Not gettign a proper stamp may well cost you more in depreciation than not paying for it.

Nice car though, and an excellent example. At 54,000 miles, it has only just run in really.

same here. i was looking at 5 series, xj6, and equivalent before an auto trader 'if you like these you might consider this' type ad appeared and suggested an omega. i bought the elite; that was about 5 years ago now and i wouldnt hesitate in buying another one tomorrow. still driving the same one now. all the refinement (and more) of a 5 series, all the comfort, power and quality at a third of the price. and let's not forget how reliable these v6s are.

no brainer really.

and at the time the omega had the biggest cabin space of any vehicle in its class!

It's a very nice car, no doubt, but unless you're doing virtually no miles is it really worth the extra running costs?

An Omega can get through a bit of fuel, but that will be in a different league, especially if driven hard. I don't know about you, but it's not that often I use everything the Omega has to give and want for more. Are you ever going to use all those horses?

Granted there are times when you can't have too much power, but you pay for having extra power every mile you drive. With fuel costs increasing with no end in sight at the moment, it just feels like the wrong time to buy something more thirsty.

If you want a more nippy car (let's face it, no-one needs to better the top end performance of a V6 Omega in the UK), go for something lighter and less thirsty. Keep the Omega as a cruising barge.

On the other hand, if that car is affordable to run now, it sure as hell won't be in a few years time, so if it's something you've always wanted, go for it now.
