Anybody got views on todays driving I think its getting faster

Is it possible that cars today are made to go faster than in years gone by

seems that most people want to get there before they have set off

can anybody elaborate on this.

I certainly do......

Driving standards are getting poorer
Drivers attitude are getting worse
Many drivers, as you say, are impatient
Even modest modern cars are much faster than those from the 60's 70's
Modern cars seem to need less concentration to drive them than they did, hence the poor standard of driving

Just a few of my initial thoughts...... :( :( :(

Cars are of course faster. Driving styles are terrible. i'm fairly sure a big amount of people have no concept of breaking distances!  >:(

I always leave tarmac and tyres and a bit more when pulling up in a queue. Then you get some gloit pulling up as close as possible behind you. Retards. I then pull forward to allow a gap (so I don't get rear ended if they do), then they pull forward so close they can lick my rear bumper. I hate that. Are they thick or what? I'm tempted to put the hazards on when the lights go green, and stay put so that they would have to reverse to carry on.

People do some sort of stupid manoeuvre only a retard would think is ok, nearly wipe you out, then gave you a black look/threaten violence/give verbal abuse etc as if it's your fault!

If they hit my car, that'll be that. It'll be damaged then, so it won't matter if I back up and ram them a few (hundred) times to teach them a lesson.

Driving standards have certainly reduced...

IMO, many drivers appear to either drive far to quickly or slow...  Tonight driving home from work I got held up behind someone going through a 30 mph limit doing between 5 and 10 mph, although the road had speed bumps they didn't really speed up between them, then only went up to 35 when they entered the National Speed Limit after them...  On a 4 lane stretch of the A1(M) many drivers seem to think it is safe to drive at 60 in lane 3 and then the pillocks who drive with their rear fog lights on when they simply are not necessary...  These just occurring on my way home from work today...

But then, look at driving lessons and the modern longer test...  Parking in a car park - good thing, theory test - good thing, hazard perception test - terrible, how to check oil, water, washer levels - whilst knowing how to do them is a good thing, part of the driving test not so good...

When Master Vamps was learning to drive a couple of years ago he had a DVD, I kept failing the test for two reasons, first, spotting more hazards and secondly, for spotting them too early........ ::) ::) ::)

Worsening driving standards are just reflecting the decline in general behaviour IMHO, I think people are generally getting more impatient, selfish and rude in every way. I work in a supermarket, I see it every day and I despair of the way people act sometimes, I really do.
For example -
- parking in a disabled spot so that they don't have to walk an extra 20 yards to the front door
- wearing pyjamas to do their shopping. How long does it take to put clothes on ffs?
- feigning injury in a slip or trip to claim thousands in compensation
- claiming that kids have choked on foreign objects in food to claim compensation
- generally treating my staff like s**t because they are the customer, and they are always right
- Eating food all the way round the shop then dumping the remains on any given shelf
- picking up a joint of beef, then deciding they don't want it, and dumping it on any given shelf - bearing in mind this may be worth £20 or more and we can't sell it after 20 minutes out of chill
- you don't want to know what the toilets look like sometimes

I could go on and on....

Oh, I'm sorry, this was supposed to be about driving, wasn't it  :-\

True. The single most frightening thing for me.

Second most frightening thing. Attitudes like that  :o

To elaborate.
Many bad drivers out there. They do things that annoy. In fact, driving standards generally are terrible.

Remember. You ain't gonna be able to change THEIR habits. Live with it. Accept it. If you get annoyed, and yes, I do sometimes, that will only add to the bad driving on the road. This time, you.

Sorry Geoffr but that is one of the most annoying habits I encounter on a daily basis. I go through a section of road with 3 sets of lights very close together. I pull up apply handbrake so my brake lightd don't dazzle the car behind and then the driver in front pulls forward another car length leaving me looking like an idiot.  :-X

I disagree. I think its getting slower over the past 6 or 7 years.  I even changed my commute route, as my average speed, on the MID, had dropped to below 30mph...  ...now remember, I tend to drive fairly briskly when the situation allows, esp not on my commute, so that shows how slow the journey had become.

When I first moved here, I used to be able to zip along the A roads to work, probably slightly above the NSL ::). Over time, it became you'd never get above 50mph. Then the 50mph signs went up (from NSL), and overnight, everyone drove at 40mph...  ...then 30mph...  ...now you get agricultural vehicles getting frustrated with the speeds.

Speed aside, the quality of the driving has deteriorated dramtically, esp in the last 10-15yrs.  OK, I work in MK, where most drivers you meet probably have no licence anyway, so I daily see appalling drivers, but we now have a combination of retards who think the road is theirs (reps, jnr manager, who in the 80s had Sierras and Chavaliers, but now have 3/5 series), and tosspots who believe they are sensible, but refuse to use anything but the middle lane on the M40, due to penile length issues.
