XBOX LIVE Gold subscription.  Obviously, he needs the game he is playing as well.

XBOX LIVE Gold subscription.  Obviously, he needs the game he is playing as well.
Silver for the download games IIRC.  I guess the other bits would be broadband with ethernet to the Xbox, and most likely a headset if playing with other online players.

Xbox Live Gold Membership + Wifi Adaptor. (unless you are near a wired ethernet socket)
