Bought the Vec last year with full 12 months test, couple of advisories re track rod ends. Driven for year and not touched track rods/ends.
Passed mot this year with advisories on battery clamp (missing) and one brake pipe slightly corroded. Was expecting at least advisory on track rods, but not mention, which is good news for me, but seems strange, bearing in mind I've done 23000 miles between tests.
Has anyone else encountered anything like this?

No, different testers in differents towns.

Some testers have there favourets that they like to pick up on 
Mine is brake pipes hence me emptying half of tin of white greese all over them   

Again, some testers have been known to snag things if they think they may get the job of fixing it 
Not fare but sadly human nature

worth a check with the vehicle loaded/ on the ground. (you checking , someone shaking the steering)

I tend to be treated fairly by our MOT chap, ex brother in law and school friend.... But I use another independent mechanic so the MOT tester knows he is not going to get the work whatever he says......

Got to admit the bloke I take mine too is spot on 

No health and saftey crap with him.
He is quite happy to have you walk around with him while he is doing the checks and to be fair, he is spot on when he does it 
And he is no diplomat.  Just calls it the way he see's it 
If you don't like it, you just get told to break off

What a sensible system 
Alas, I can only dream of such a situation ........

The new style MOT certs have the advisorys printed on them.  Which I suppose is good for buyers, although it would be easy for a seller to tippex them out and then photocopy the certificate.....

How very suspicious of you. Maybe true though 
We have no independent testers or centres, nor an advisory system. Our test centres are govt run so they can't tout for work so to speak, but they are strict. I once failed a test for a number plate bulb out and the front plate which had some marks between the front and back layers, thereby affecting the registration apparently. As far as fails go it was an easy fix plus the retest fee, but I remember thinking then that perhaps advisories would have been a good idea.

I've done a bit of research on some of our company vehicles. Found a number of 3 year old vehicles tested at the same garage have all needed headlamp beam adjustment to  pass mot. It would appear some testers do have their favourite failures.
Would it be too synical of me to suggest headlamp beam adjustment is easy money for garages?

its one of them.
In good times when working on trucks, most large companies like a clean sweep at mot , no advisories, as now even these are " registered " on the system. 

So a pre headlight check was done, with a signature of the tester given. Even so at test, adjustment with the same load reqd!?
