Is the prop shaft hollow ? While investigating the annoying rattle i ruled out the rear brakes and handbrake as all that has been checked . But while turning the prop i can hear what i think is something rolling around inside the prop like a loose metal bit

Its definately inside , if its open ended i could drop the prop and empty it ?

Do Omega run the rubber donuts each end of the prop like the Carltons do?

may be a bit of the weld has come off inside. or rust under the plate with number on it, its rivited on to the shaft.

It sounds like a ball bearing , a weld could possibly be it ...bloody annoying though when the windows down you can hear it rolling about

It has a spline on each end to connect to gearbox and diff.

Mmm ? I wont get it out then    Only thing to do is drill a hole in it .

The prop shaft(s) are hollow (they ring like a bell if you tap them with a spanner).

The Omega has a two piece shaft with a sliding CV joint at the centre bearing. I can't really see how you would get something out without cutting the shafts TBH

Oops, just occured to me. CV joints have big ball bearings in them (at least they do until something goes wrong............... .)

It only makes the noise if i turn the prop , i have been under the car and pin pointed the noise and its inside the prop right at the back where the prop joins the diff  One thing i could do is seperate the prop from the diff and see if it does it when disconnected .

You drill it your bugger up the balance.

Wont be drilling it then , for now ill drive with radio a bit louder and look out for a prop shaft .

According to haynes it's not too difficult to get the prop off - only a 3 spanner job    - I wouldnt drill it.
I have a prop shaft on my f/l v6 2.5 if you want it and if I can get the bugger off

Given the cost of a propshaft (from a breaker on here) I would be tempted to just replace it.
