Plastic Smell
« on: 14 March 2012, 17:14:43 »

Couple of weeks ago I replaced my damaged heater matrix with a replacement.( Nissen ) from local factors .

When I think back the first time I opened the box it came in I remeber the smell of plastic being quite strong but as most parts now are made from ABS or similar just went ahead and fitted it.The part was a ok fit but didn,t have the same quality feal to the Valeo unit I removed which was obviously original and the new part didn,t seal that well into the matrix cradle so I neede to pack the gaps with foam rubber .

Heater works fine and no leaks so that is the important bit ,but when ever I drive the car especially with the heater on 26 or above it has a quite strong plastic smell, not quite like a new car but sure it is from this new matrix.

Anybody got any ideas of a spray or similar that will help take the plastic smell away as had hoped it would have gone on its own by now.

Matrix didn,t form a seal around the edges of the matrix holder so a constant stream of cold outside air coming from around matrix.

Existing matrix had a thin foam rubber strip around the edge to seal / new aftermarket didn,t so improvised and pushed a thin strip of foam rubber draught sealer in gaps....job done.....  just would like the plastic smell to go away ;D
