So that was it....
« on: 15 March 2012, 11:11:22 »

Driving along the motorway yesterday, I suddenly got that sound you get when driving over fine stones. You know when they have done the cheap ass job and chippings go everywhere.

It was that sound, but from the rear only  ??? - At times quite loud.

After about 30 seconds I figured I knew what it was, pulled over & yup the exhaust bodge let go. Its got more holes in the rear pipes into back box than a tea bag.

Sounds good though  :D

Its an original full spec double walled GM one, with nice tail pipes, don't want to replace it.

Anyone bought from eternal very recently? Have they found another courier?

Might bodge it again  ;D

From previous experiance on little fatties V6 they don't last well, but the putty does! Lasted a good 6 months, since it failed on its MOT last time  ::)  ;D

If it's really just the section by the back box, worth chopping it off before the rust and welding on a repair section, I reckon.

Its where they all go, on the bend up towards the rear box. Not had a good chance to get it up in the air yet & really inspect it.

As I don't have the ability to weld, I suspect its either a bodge fix or time for an exhaust  :(

I knew it was going anyway...

Worth keeping a gen one going for as long as possible, IMHO, as they are NLS and Eternal is looking flaky.

TheBoy has a welder. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. :y

I can't help think about cutting out that whole section between the bend and the back box and replace it with a pre made section, with the right reductions for it to fit in with slots cut for clamps etc.

The rest of the system seems fine on mine, it's just join to back box that fails on the end of the mid sections. :(

Or something along the lines of Kevin's post.

Should have added...

Where to get the sections made?

Very good point chaps, it is that section which is always affected.  :(

Every time I replaced a whole system, the rest of it looked fine, centre boxes all entact with no noticeable sections about to fail, back box too, although tad rusty its intact.

I do like the full gen ones, looks too, its a small touch but I really do like the chrome angle tips of a gen exhaust, also looks "thicker" the eternal thin pipes don't look that nice. Chav me trim only option there.

Any suggestions for sourcing some pipework?  :-\

Actually, thinking about it I do have a 2.0 system, which I accidently bought in error instead of saloon. Not sure if I could harvest enough from the single centre section?  :-\

See the expanded section and slots on the silencer in the pic?

If we could get someone to make a 6"(?) long piece in the correct diameter pipe,(or cut the sections out of your gaypot exhaust Tunnie) with the join on the silencer on it, we could cut the equivilant length off the wrotten mid section, then just bolt the new bit on with extra clamps.

In fact if made with the bend as well, we could replace all the way up to just short of the mid section silencer box if needed.

Possibly in stainless if one of the costom makers will oblige...?

That bodge was only intended to get you an MOT, not make it last.

Ooh good shot.

Almost exactly as mine. Except mines blowing a little, needs a jubilee round the middle between the clamps.
