Tyres are 235 45 17

Are the sections between the clamps pipes? Or wraps? Do you know?

Wraps I think - was the VX dealer who did it - will not be cheap - my issue was a bit complex as they thought they had parts to fix and ended up having to stick with what was there - it has passed mot since. I only normally do short mileages but took it out today for 200 miles and it seems fine. I must get one made as this back box is now 11 years old and most definitely borrowed time.

64mm clamps and 45.5 mm slieves were used and of course the customary GunGum paste

Yeah, problem I had was squeezing the extra thickness of the wrap under the original clamps. Fiddely, and the original clamps had to interlock so to speak, as they interfere with each other with the pipes being so close together.
