I think it may be an MOT faliure mate but i'm not sure, but you should be able to get it done fairly cheaply I would've thought.

James,

Can you post yup some pics of the holes and the surrounding area?

If it is within a prescribes area of a structural point or pick up point for a suspension item the it would be a fail.

it's not terminal though, i would try and get the whole panel if poss and see if it could replaced that way

Perhaps I have the wrong end of the stick but am of the understanding that the RR/Disco/LR range have seperate chassis and not monocoque as per Omega and similar.  That means that, apart from chassis mounting points, seatbelts, seats etc then the fail criteria are different?

Where are the MOT testers when you need them.....     ;D

ok lets sort this. they are a fail no doubt. you could claim all sorts of things about the construction type. but the tester will fail it and tell you if your not happy contact the ministery, then they will test it at another garage, DO U WANT THE MINISTERY ALL OVER IT ?, on top of that you need to repair it any way to make the car a good one. they can be weilded but its a bit thin, or replace the section,  hope this helps . mr rad cap ex mot tester

I have sent the pics to an MOT tester on the land rover forum. He states that because the body and chassis are seperate, and because the corrosion is a) not on a structural component and b) not within the prescribed area of any load bearing area, it will not be a failure.

I'm going to take it in and get my garage to have a look...

Furthermore, I am not here to dispute whether it's a failure or not, I'm merely asking for opinions from anyone who is aware... especially current MOT testers.

Without seeing exactlly where the holes are but from what you've said id say they are not a failier.  As previously stated must be withing 300mm of steering, suspension, seatbelt, brake (ie pedal box master cyl mount ect) or body mounting to fail and if its not then it should pass.

Its a grey area as many MOT testers will fail it due to not knowing the chassis make up of these motors.

Bottom line is though that it is part of  crumple zone and hence part of the passenger area protection.

Easy enough to plate over though.
